Mark your calendars for the 2nd annual ROCKin’ Geology Party! sponsored by the North Carolina Geological Survey.
This official event of the North Carolina Science Festival will take place on April 15, 2023 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at West Point on the Eno Park in Durham.
This kid-centric day focuses on the fun side of learning about geoscience and will have events like guided geologic walks in the park coupled with a scavenger hunt, games of rock bingo for cool rock prizes, a make-your-own geode-crafting station, and of course, a cool display of North Carolina’s finest rocks, minerals, and fossils. The theme for this year’s NC Science Festival is Full STEAM Ahead, so to incorporate the arts into our party, we’re planning science fair-type, visual displays of “Everyday Geology.”
We are recruiting volunteers to create displays showcasing rocks and minerals used in our everyday lives. These displays can be posters, models, dioramas…anything creative you can come up with to showcase rocks and minerals in everyday items. Would you or your creative coworkers or friends like to create a display for our partygoers? Would you like more information? Please reach out to Amy Pitts, PG.
We are also recruiting volunteers to help us run the party on April 15. Your time and knowledge would be appreciated, not just by the NCGS but by the future geoscientists at our party. Thanks…you ROCK!
