We’ve decided to host a joint social event between AEG Carolinas, ASCE, NSPE-NC, and SEA-NC during Engineer’s Week. This showcases the collaborative spirit and mutual respect that exists between various engineering and geoscience professions. While AEG Carolinas primarily represents geologists, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the North Carolina Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE-NC), and the Structural Engineers Association of North Carolina (SEA-NC) are organizations dedicated to the engineering community. This interdisciplinary gathering exemplifies the recognition of the interdependence and shared values among these fields.
Engineer’s Week, typically observed in February, is an annual event dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the contributions of engineers to society. It is a perfect opportunity for geoscientists and engineers to come together and acknowledge the symbiotic relationship between their disciplines. Geologists and engineers often collaborate on projects involving the earth’s materials, structures, and processes, such as construction, natural resource management, environmental protection, and natural disaster mitigation. For instance, geologists may provide critical data on soil and rock properties, groundwater conditions, and potential geological hazards, which engineers then use to design and construct infrastructure safely and sustainably.
AEG Carolinas’ Winter Social Event is an excellent opportunity for professionals from different yet interrelated fields to network, celebrate their collective achievements, potentially inspire future collaborations, and share some ice cold brewskis.
